In memory of Ladislas Mpando (2010 alum)

We were deeply saddened to learn of Ladislas Mpando’s sudden passing on August 17th after suffering a severe stroke. We would like to express our deepest sympathies to Ladislas’ family and friends on behalf of all the IPDET network.

Ladislas, who attended IPDET in 2010 and served most recently as Deputy Director (Monitoring and Evaluation) within the Malawi Government, will be fondly remembered by many, especially those attending IPDET 2010 and those in his work group, as well as family, friends, and colleagues in Malawi.

Many messages have come through the listserv commenting on his zest for life and good spirits. We thank Marjorie Chisambo for alerting us of his passing. We will miss him.

Dear Marjorie, IPDETers 2010 and colleagues,
This is shocking news and we are all devastated by this untimely death of our dear friend and colleague - The late Ladislas Mpando. He was such a special person with unique qualities; I remember very well how active he was during working group discussions (he was member of our group). He will be greatly missed, but happily well remembered. I wish to convey heartfelt sincere condolences to the wife, children and the immediate family of the late Ladislas, and to his colleagues in Malawi. Our prayers are with the family during these very difficult times of mourning. May the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace and comfort the bereaved family.

    Dear Marjorie,
Greetings! It is really sad to hear about our colleague Mpando death. I shared the flat at the Leeds with him and other colleagues. I was trying to get in touch with one of his earlier acquaintances in Ethiopia. I am so sorry. Is it because of an accident? Please pass my condolence to his family. May God bless him; and give his family the strength to withstand the sorrow.
    Best regards, Amdie

    Dear Marjorie,
This is really very very BAD and SAD news. Ladis had become a true friend to me specifically and I had planned to give him a call in the near future. The world can be so cruel to have allowed such a humble person to leave us when some of us have just come to know him. Personnaly, I will miss him terribly. It so SAD, Marjorie, so sad. It's a pity the doctors could not save his life MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE, AMEN. Will build courage to call yoin the near future.

It was a rude shock to me when I read the mail on Ladisas; not because I think one should not die but why so soon after we shared so much with such a nice person. Well our consolation, as always is on the Almighty. IPDETters take heart, Marjorie thanks and please convey our heart felt condolence to the family.

It's very unfortunate to open my mail, expectantly to read good news, only to be told that our friend and colleague, Ladislas is no more. Oh What a terrible news! It has taken me sometime to submit my condolence as I'm trying to understand the reality of this news. Alas! Mr. Ladislas Mpandos is gone. What can we say? For death is a neccessary end and it will come when it will come. The late Mr. Ladislas Mpandos was a member of the Education team that evaluated the Child Friendly Schools In Ruwanda at the small group stage. He exhibited maturity, in his contributions. Our late brother was polite, friedly, jovial, caring and demostrated concern for others. Indeed, his family has lost a caring, dependable and cherish Husband, loving Dady, trustworty Uncle, and benevolent Son. The Government has lost a resourceful Expert. IPDET 2010, death has laid its icy hand on our brother and friend Ladislas. Mr Mpandos we wish you safe journey Home until we meet again in Heaven.'Da Yie'(meaning Sound Sleep)
