Module 7: Selecting Designs for Cause-and-Effect, Descriptive, and Normative Evaluation Questions

After choosing the evaluation questions, the evaluator next selects the evaluation design approach that is most appropriate given each question. This module presents some guidelines on design and identifies the strengths and weaknesses of various design options. It is important to keep in mind, however, that every situation is unique. The is no perfect design choice and thus no “one and only” was to address an evaluation question.
