Richard Jones is the Chief of section Capacity Development for the UNDP joining the office in 2016. Richard leads the Office’s support to Decentralised Evaluation, leading the updating of the UNDP evaluation guidelines in 2019 and 2021, providing extensive training and support for staff in implementing Decentralised evaluations, and designing and launching an online evaluation training course on evaluation in 2020 for all UNDP staff. Richard led IEO’s evaluations of UNDP’s work in Eswatini, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and the Philippines as well as leading a recent evaluation “Financing the Recovery: A Formative Evaluation of UNDP’s Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic and SDG financing, in 2021/22.
Evaluation in the UN
This workshop will outline the core principles for UN evaluations and how UN values (Leave no One behind, Gender equality and human rights) shape evaluative practice in the UN and UNDP. The workshop will go into detail on the implementation approaches and standards across UNDP and the challenges faced in ensuring this. The workshop will offer practical approaches throughout, including reflections on what UNDP has learnt from undertaking evaluations in fragile settings and during the pandemic.
