Sven Harten

Sven Harten is the Deputy Director at the German Institute for Development Evaluation (DEval) and heads the Competence Centre for Evaluation Methodologies. He holds a PhD in political science from the LSE. He has more than 20 years of experience designing, implementing and managing more than 50 evaluations in the field of development cooperation. The main evaluation themes are currently climate change adaptation, financial cooperation (especially blended finance), private sector (MSME), as well as evaluation criteria, quality and standards. Previously, Sven worked at the World Bank (IFC) and the European Commission, as well as for evaluation consultancy firms. He lived more than ten years in developing countries (Africa and Latin America) and has travelled extensively on evaluation missions in these regions. Sven has comprehensive teaching and workshop facilitation experience, for instance, as a lecturer at universities, trainer in multilateral organizations or facilitator of evaluation capacity development activities in developing countries. He has given training in German, English, Spanish, French and Dutch.
