Sven Harten

Sven Harten is Deputy Director at the German Institute for Development Evaluation (DEval) and heading the Competence Centre for Evaluation Methodologies. He holds a PhD in political science from the LSE and has more than 20 years of experience in designing, implementing and managing more than 50 evaluations in the field of development cooperation. Main evaluation themes are currently climate change adaptation, financial cooperation (especially blended finance), private sector (MSME) as well as evaluation criteria, quality and standards. Previously, Sven worked at the World Bank (IFC), the European Commission as well as for evaluation consultancy firms. He lived more than 10 years in developing countries (Africa and Latin America) and has travelled extensively on evaluation missions in these regions. Sven has comprehensive teaching and workshop facilitation experience, for instance as lecturer at universities, trainer in multilateral organizations or facilitator of evaluation capacity development activities in developing countries. He has given trainings in German, English, Spanish, French and Dutch.
