3rd Place Awarding Speech

Women who represent half of the planet’s population are often excluded from development processes, including evaluations.

To tackle this challenge, Team ReachMe! decided to “flip the script” of evaluation and develop a solution that would engage women in countries with patriarchal gender norms, such as Afghanistan, not only as beneficiaries, but also as stakeholders in evaluation processes. Despite common perceptions, women in Afghanistan have access to modern technology, and provided “do no harm” principle is ensured, can undertake data collection and contribute to evaluation analyses processes. In line with the current discussions around evaluation, this solution is also instrumental in ensuring gender-responsive and human-rights approach to evaluation.
