Sophie Sirtaine

Independent Evaluation Group (IEG)

In her current position as Director, Strategy and Operations at IEG, Mrs. Sirtaine is responsible for shaping IEG’s strategic priorities, giving strategic direction to resource management issues, and leading IEG’s Evaluation Capacity Development (ECD) initiatives around the world. Since joining IEG in 2016, Mrs. Sirtaine has led efforts to shape IEG’s work program so that it more closely aligns with the priorities of the World Bank Group, update IEG’s Theory of Change and Results Framework, guide the strategic staffing of IEG to reflect evolving needs and capabilities in the field of evaluation, and scale up its ECD efforts globally.

With nearly twenty years of experience in the World Bank, Mrs. Sirtaine has held various positions in the Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia, and Europe and Central Asia regions; the Corporate Secretariat, and Operations, Policy and Country Services (OPCS). During this period, she gained extensive experience in Bank Operations and led the Bank’s banking sector crisis response in several EU countries during the 2008-09 global financial crisis. Her most recent post was Country Director for Caribbean countries in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region.

A national of Belgium, Mrs. Sirtaine worked in London in investment banking at JP Morgan and as an infrastructure economist for Halcrow Fox and Associates prior to joining the World Bank.
